9 to 5
Auditions for Weston Friendly Society's April 2027 production of 9 to 5 will be held on Sunday, Oct. 25, and Monday, Oct. 26, from 6 to 10 p.m. at the Weston Town Hall (11 Town House Rd, Weston, MA 02493).
9 to 5, with music and lyrics by the legendary Dolly Parton and book by Patricia Resnick, is based on the 1980 hit movie with the same name. Violet (the Lily Tomlin character), Judy (the Jane Fonda character) and Doralee (the Dolly Parton character) are three coworkers working ... 9 to 5 ... in the late 1970s who concoct a plan to get even with their sexist, egotistical boss, Franklin Hart. While Hart remains "otherwise engaged," the women give their workplace a dream makeover, taking control of the company that had always kept them down.
In addition to the characters named above, actors of any gender and ethnicity are needed to play office employees, police officers and hospital employees as well as current, former and future significant others of the primary characters. Also notable is that an actor is needed to play Violet's teenager, Josh. This actor does not have any featured singing moments, but they do need to be able to play 15-18.

Violet
The head secretary at Consolidated Industries and administrative assistant to Franklin Hart, Violet is a strong and ambitious single mother who typically stands up for what she believes in. ALTO (D5-F3) Age range: 40 to 50
Doralee
Office worker Doralee is proof that there is more to a woman than just her looks. ALTO/BELTER (E5-G3) Age: 20 to 30
Judy
The "new" girl at Consolidated Industries, Judy has been burned by her husband's affair and is searching for personal empowerment. Although she might be insecure, she is determined and hopeful. MEZZO SOPRANO (F5-Ab3) Age range: 30 to 35
Franklin Hart
One of the firm's executives and a notorious chauvinist, Franklin Hart is capable of faking charm but usually shows his true colors as an arrogant, self-absorbed boss. BARITONE (Gb4-C3) Age range: 45 to 50
Roz Keith
The attentive office gossip queen and snitch, Roz has an unrequited love for Mr. Hart and will do anything she can to win his approval. ALTO/BELTER (C5-G3) Age range: 35 to 45
Joe
Joe is a young office accountant who is genuine and nice, and smitten with Violet. TENOR (G4-B2) Age: 25 to 35
Dwayne
Doralee's husband is very supportive of her professional pursuits. TENOR (G4-E2) Age range: 25 to 30
Josh
Josh is Violet's awkward teenager. THIS CHARACTER DOES NOT HAVE ANY FEATURED SINGING MOMENTS. Age range: 15 to 18
Missy
Franklin Hart's wife Missy is clueless to her husband's true nature. Age range: 20 to 35
Maria
Maria is a vibrant secretary in Franklin Hart's office. (D5-F4) Age range: 20 to 30
Dick
Dick is Judy's soon-to-be ex-husband. Age range: 35 to 45
Kathy
Kathy is a secretary in Franklin Hart's office with a tendency to gossip. (D5-G4) Age range: 30 to 40
Margaret
Margaret is a secretary in Franklin Hart's office with a tendency to drink. Age range: 30 to 40
Tinsworthy
Franklin Hart's boss and chairman of the board, Tinsworthy is a good man,who may be wiser to Hart's ways than he lets on. Age range: 50 to 65
Ensemble
Singers and dancers with strong singing voices are needed to play office employees, police officers and hospital employees.
